Morgan Guyton puts it in a nutshell.  This makes sense. The fundamentalists have the mega church goers socialized and they'll take care of their own. They decide who their own is.
Follow it out. The perfect set-up for eventual war between churches. Do you think US and THEM will simply go away? No. It is too powerful as manipulation tactic. It's the hive mind.
