The decision out of CA on Prop 8 was not unexpected. The day when the CA judges heard arguments, a few hours afterwards I was able to listen in on a conference call with the lawyers who presented arguments. They suspected, from the questions the judges asked, that the judges were leaning to not overturning Prop 8 but would allow those same gender couples who were married to stay married.

This California case could be a springboard for other cases around the country. THAT's what was important about CA. THAT's why it mattered to any queer anywhere.

We'll see what happens while in the meantime pollution continues, more companies are folding, money is more scarce for everyday folks, the sick are getting sicker and single payer health care is not on the table.
